Azerbaijan, Belarus discuss cooperation on national security
Baku, August 14 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan and Belarus have discussed cooperation between their national security authorities as Azerbaijan`s Minister of National Security Eldar Mahmudov met chairman of State Security Committee of Belarus Valery Vakulchik in Baku.
They explored prospects for cooperation in fighting against various forms of transnational organized crime like terrorism, extremism, illegal circulation of narcotics, as well as illegal migration.
Mr. Mahmudov highlighted measures taken in Azerbaijan to tackle security problems, and provided an insight into the history and consequences of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The chairman of Belarus State Security Committee stressed the importance of discussing the bilateral cooperation.
Mr. Vakulchik also hailed relationship between national securities bodies of Belarus and Azerbaijan.
As part of his trip the chairman of Belarus State Security Committee visited national leader Heydar Aliyev`s grave in the Alley of Honors to lay a wreath at it.
He also paid tribute to acclaimed ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva, and visited the Alley of Martyrs to pay tribute to brave fighters, who sacrificed themselves for the sake of independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
