AZERBAIJAN CAN BECOME PARTY TO TURKEY-GREECE-ITALY NATURAL GAS PIPELINE DEAL

Azerbaijan may accede to a Turkey-Greece-Italy natural gas pipeline deal signed July 26 in Rome, Economic Development Minister of Azerbaijan Heydar Babayev said at a joint press conference on August 2 following the meeting with the Greek Minister for Development, Dimitris Siufas.

H. Babayev said this offer came from the Greek side. The text of the contract will be presented to the Azerbaijani side. After studying the contract, Azerbaijani will express its opinion on this issue.

H. Babayev said the role of Azerbaijan in ensuring Europe’s energy security has increased.

Under the contract, Turkey-Greece pipeline will run beneath the Adriatic Sea to Italy. US Administration pledged to support the project.
