AZERBAIJAN DEPUTY FM MEETS PACE PRESIDENT
Azerbaijan`s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mahmud Mammadquliyev met with President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Rene van der Linden.
During the conversation, the two officials discussed ongoing democratization processes in Azerbaijan, the country`s relations with the Council of Europe as well as ways of settling the regional conflicts.
Rene van der Linden informed the Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister about his visits to Armenia and Georgia.
The PACE President expressed his satisfaction with the level of bilateral relations between the Council of Europe and Azerbaijan.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan,
Mr. Van der Linden stressed PACE`s resolution #1416 on the dispute and said it should be solved as soon as possible.
Mahmud Mammadquliyev said Azerbaijan places particular emphasis on the enhancement of its relationships with the Council of Europe.
He said the integration into European and Euroatlantic structures is one of Azerbaijan`s foreign policy priorities.
Touching on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the deputy minister said it is Armenia`s non-constructive position which impedes the dispute`s settlement.
Mahmud Mammadquliyev stressed the conflict must be solved only in accordance with the principle of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and in accordance with international legal norms and democratic and human rights values.
