AZERBAIJAN EMBASSY TO UK HOSTS EVENT MARKING 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF GUAM
The Embassy of Azerbaijan in the United Kingdom the other day in London has hosted an event to mark the 10th anniversary of founding of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM, an alliance of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova.
Ambassador Fakhraddin Qubanov informed the audience, including members of the British Parliament, representatives of the UK Foreign Office, various think tanks as well as public figures, foreign ambassadors and journalists, about the key prerequisites for founding the organization and its 10-year activities.
"It is such factors as democracy, security and stability that bring the member-states together,” he said adding, “the GUAM’s July, 2007 Summit in Baku, considerably increased international interest in the organization”.
The Ambassador noted that GUAM is expanding its relations with the USA, Poland, Japan and other countries.
On the major problems facing the member countries, he underlined the importance of putting issues concerning the regional conflicts on the UN’s agenda. “Resolving the conflicts would foster integration processes in the region,” Qurbanov said.
