Azerbaijan, EU discuss prospects for cooperation
Baku, December 13 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has met new head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Malena Mard.
The signing of the EU-Azerbaijan agreement on facilitating the issuing of visas was characterized as the beginning of a new stage between the two sides in the meeting.
They expressed hope that negotiations on signing of bilateral documents would result successfully.
Malena Mard noted the organization she represents regards Azerbaijan as a strategic partner, and praises Azerbaijan’s role in ensuring the energy security of EU member states.
She noted the EU was interested in expansion of cooperation with Azerbaijan in a variety of fields.
Speaking about the prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and EU, Minister Mammadyarov noted integration into Euro-Atlantic space was one of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities.
Mr Elmar Mammadyarov added Azerbaijan also attaches importance to its national interests while expanding relations with EU.
Touching upon the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the FM noted the need for fair position of international organizations, particularly the EU on the issue, as well as their real contributions to solution of the dispute.
The Foreign Minister also noted that the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was the main obstacle for development of the region, as well as interregional integration.
