AZERBAIJAN FM MEETS VATICAN SECRETARY OF STATE
Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Vatican`s Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone.
Cardinal Bertone said he is pleased to visit Azerbaijan and attend a ceremony to inaugurate a Catholic church in Baku.
He said Vatican plans to open its nunciature in the Azerbaijani capital, and added this will serve to further intensify the bilateral relations.
The Vatican Secretary of State praised the high level of religious tolerance in Azerbaijan, stressing this fact is a great boost for Azerbaijan`s prestige both in the region and on the international arena.
Elmar Mammadyarov said Azerbaijan which is predominantly Muslim country is the place where representatives of all religious confessions live in peace and harmony.
On his country`s conflict with Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh, Mammadyarov said Armenia`s military aggression forced hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis to flee their homelands becoming refugees and IDPs.
The minister said Azerbaijan`s government is making every diplomatic effort towards restoring its territorial integrity.
