AZERBAIJAN, GREECE SIGN MEMO ON CO-OP IN GAS AND OIL FIELD

Azerbaijan and Greece governments today in Baku have signed a Memo on cooperation in the natural gas and oil field.

Economic development minister of Azerbaijan Heydar Babayev and his Greek counterpart Dimitris Siufas signed the document.

The document is said to play important role in transportation of Azerbaijani gas through Greece to the EU member countries. Along with expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the oil-gas fields, the document also will contribute to energy safety of the European Union, the development of Trans-Europe Energy system.

The Greek minister said for the first phase his country plans to export from Azerbaijan annually 2 billion cubic meters gas. Dimitris Siufas said he would want Azerbaijan to join the agreement among Italy, Greece and Turkey on transportation of the Caspian gas signed in July 26 in Rome.

Heydar Babayev stated that Greece recently would send the text of Agreement to Azerbaijani side. It will make possible for Azerbaijan to join the Agreement.
