Azerbaijan is important to the whole Arab world
Baku, August 22 (AZERTAC). AZERTAC interviewed ambassador of Kuwait to Azerbaijan Saud Abdulaziz Mohammad al-Shamlan al-Roumi.
- Mr. Ambassador, How do you find the present state of and prospects for the Azerbaijan-Kuwait relations?
- First of all, I would like to note that Azerbaijan is an important country not only to Kuwait but also to the whole Arabic world. There is political and economic stability in Azerbaijan. Not every country enjoys this stability.
Kuwait-Azerbaijan relations are well developed. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev`s official visit to Kuwait in 2009 gave an impetus to our relations. The Prime Minister of Kuwait is scheduled to visit Azerbaijan shortly.
Although, political ties between our countries are well, the economic cooperation has not developed that much and trade turnover falls short of expectations. We have to develop our cooperation in this field. I have met a few top officials and Azerbaijan`s Minister of Economy and Industry was among them. The meeting discussed prospects for development of economic relations between Kuwait and Azerbaijan. I am planning to meet some responsible people to discuss investments.
Reciprocal visits are very important in terms of the development of relations. We have achieved some progress in this direction. Some exhibitions are held in Kuwait. Kuwait conducts a number of exhibitions. Azerbaijani delegations are invited to these exhibitions in which they showcase their products. Kuwaiti delegates, in particular representatives of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce, come to Azerbaijan to meet their counterparts. Reciprocal visits will play an important role in the development of bilateral ties.
- What sectors in Azerbaijan are more attractive for Kuwait?
- We can note a number of sectors. The tourism sector is very attractive. I was in the region of Gabala. Gabala is a beautiful tourism region and is very interesting for us. We are seeking to open a direct flight to Gabala. The talks are underway to open the tourism bureau in Kuwait. The main aim is to attract tourists to Gabala and other regions of Azerbaijan. The talks are underway to open the direct flight. We keep this matter in the center of attention. At the same time, there are opportunities for oil and petrochemical cooperation.
- What kind of work is being done to reciprocally popularize culture of our countries?
- Our cultures and traditions are similar. In general, Islamic nations have similar culture and customs. We are working to popularize our countries` culture on a mutual basis. We are conducting talks to hold the culture week of Azerbaijan in Kuwait. The Kuwait national folklore ensemble is scheduled to come to Azerbaijan.
- Mr. Ambassador, we would like to know your opinion on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict?
- Kuwait has always favored justice. For this reason, we back the UN Security Council`s resolutions on the dispute.
