Azerbaijan, Japan explore prospects for humanitarian cooperation

Elnur Mammadov, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, met with Masaki Ishikawa, the special representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for Central Asia, Caucasus and GUAM.
During the meeting, the parties discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Japan. The two explored ways of enhancing cooperation in the economic and trade, industrial, energy and humanitarian domains. In this regard, they underscored the role of the State Commission on Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Japan and the Japan-Azerbaijan Economic Committee, as well as the importance of hosting the next joint meeting in 2025.
Elnur Mammadov highlighted the post-conflict period, the steps undertaken by Azerbaijan to establish lasting peace, the problem of landmines in the liberated territories, as well as the restoration and reconstruction projects implemented in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions.
Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov informed his colleague about the country’s successful hosting of the COP29 conference and its outcomes. He expressed his gratitude to the Japanese side for its support to the COP29 Presidency.
Masaki Ishikawa congratulated Azerbaijan on its COP29 Presidency, as well as commended the excellent organization of the event and leadership efforts in contributing to the fight against climate change.
The sides stressed the importance of the pivotal agreements signed within the COP29, including the adoption of the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on Climate Finance, the Paris Agreement, the annual climate finance commitment of financial institutions, as well as the vital decisions related to the Fund for responding to Loss and Damage.
