AZERBAIJAN JOINED TO ANOTHER CONVENTION ON THE RIGHT OF THE CHILD

At the session of Milli Majlis on 30 March, discussed was the bill on the Convention “On protection of children and cooperation in connection with interstate adoption”.

As the chairman of the standing committee of parliament on social policy Hadi Rajabli informed, in the document, directed to Milli Majlis by President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan joins the said Convention with the corresponding statement. In the statement, it is underlined that according to corresponding Articles of the Convention, the Azerbaijan Republic declares that children transferred for adoption only on the basis of the decision, which have entered validity of court, can abandon the territory of the Azerbaijan Republic. Adoption of children constantly living in territory of the Azerbaijan Republic can be carried out only in the case that it is executed according to functions of the central body (Ministry of Justice).

Chairman of the commission also has told that since 1998 on present time, for adoption 450 Azerbaijan children were transferred to foreign citizens. However, our country has not joined the corresponding Convention, any data on these children was not received. After connection of Azerbaijan to the said documents, the central body can be interested in destiny of the Azerbaijan children handed for adoption to foreign citizens, and protect their rights. Besides, after adoption it will be possible to prevent the facts of their sale, or sale or change of their internal bodies.

After discussion, the project of the Convention has been approved.

Then the parliament has made amendments and changes to some acts of the Azerbaijan Republic.
