AZERBAIJAN JUSTICE MINISTRY’S TWO-DAY MEETING ENDS
Two-day meeting of the Justice Ministry of Azerbaijan within the framework of the cooperation program with the Council of Europe (CE) on the conditions of detainment of life prisoners and persons, sentenced to long-term imprisonment, ended.
EU officials, representatives from Sweden, Finland, Austria, as well as employees of the Justice Ministry and Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan attended the event.
Speaking in the meeting, Nazim Alakbarov, Deputy Minister of Justice briefed the attendees of the reforms carried out in the penitentiary system, intensification of the Penitentiary Service’s cooperation with EU, OSCE, and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as well as measures taken in improvement of legislation.
Denis Bribosia, CE Secretary General’s Special Representative expressed his satisfaction with the expansion of cooperation between Azerbaijani Justice Ministry and CE, as well as successful realization of the Action Plan on improvement of the penitentiary system in Azerbaijan.
The meeting also discussed the legislation on detainment of life prisoners and persons, sentenced to long term imprisonment, European standards in this field, detainment conditions of prisoners, legal situation of persons detained in isolators and other issues.
