Azerbaijan Milli Majlis speaker meets chairman of Indonesian parliament`s House of Representatives
Baku, April 16 (AZERTAC). Speaker of the Azerbaijan parliament, Milli Majlis, Ogtay Asadov has met an Indonesian delegation led by chairman of the legislative body`s House of Representatives, Marzuki Alie.
Asadov praised the current level of relations between Azerbaijan and Indonesia. “Both countries have great potential to expand political, economic and cultural cooperation and it should be used effectively.”
The speaker noted 5 documents were signed between Indonesia and Azerbaijan and 11 documents would be ratified soon in the Milli Majlis. “These documents will create legal basis for development of bilateral cooperation to cover all spheres.”
Asadov pointed out trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Indonesia made up $950,000 in 2011. “This is a good indicator, but it must be increased.”
The speaker underlined the necessity of increasing the number of reciprocal visits. He also noted favorable conditions should be created for businessmen.
Asadov also hailed the fact that Indonesia had always supported Azerbaijan in international organizations.
Marzuki Alie, in turn, briefed the Azerbaijani side on the structure and activity of the Indonesian parliament. He said all political parties represented in the House of Representatives want to closely cooperate with Azerbaijan. “When the House of Representatives adopted a petition on the Khojaly genocide representatives of all political parties condemned this tragedy and supported Azerbaijan`s just position.”
Alie said he described the Khojaly genocide as a crime against humanity at an event on the Khojaly genocide held on February 28 in the Indonesian State University.
He added official Jakarta supports Azerbaijan`s just position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and respects its territorial integrity.
