AZERBAIJAN MINISTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY MEETS WITH INTERIOR MINISTER OF AFGHANISTAN
Baku, June 8, (AZERTAC). Minister of National Security of Azerbaijan, Lieutenant-General Eldar Mahmudov met here Thursday with visiting Interior Minister of Afghanistan Zarar Ahmad Mugbil.
Minister Mahmudov said not only the two nations shared historical and cultural relations but also had a number of similar regional problems. He informed the Afghan Minister on the measures being undertaken in Azerbaijan to ensure security in the country withstanding the most dangerous forms and manifestations of organized crime. He said as an active member of the international anti-terror coalition, Azerbaijan is engaged in combat against organized transnational gangs keeping in touch with terrorist organizations.
Among factors influencing negatively the current situation in the region, Gen. Mahmudov called the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, informing the visitor on the measures against drug and human trafficking, migration and other illegal activities taking place in the uncontrolled territories occupied by Armenia.
Afghan Minister of Interior stressed the importance of such meetings to make the two countries’ cooperation in fighting transnational crime more effective. He informed the Azeri Minister of National Security on how his country combats international terrorism, extremism and other manifestations of the organized crime, including drug trafficking.
The sides agreed that exchange of information and experience is an important part of the cooperation .
