AZERBAIJAN TO ENTER EU GAS MARKET

Gas transportation from Azerbaijan to Turkey and Greece will have started by the end of this year. Thus, Azerbaijan will enter European Union market with its gas potential, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said June 19 at the second GUAM summit in Baku.

President pointed out proven gas reserves in the country are estimated at 1.5 trillion cubic meters, saying there is up-to-date infrastructure in the country to carry gas to Europe.

Ilham Aliyev noted Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum gas pipeline is already operational and added that Azerbaijan has become gas exporting country beginning from this year.

“I am sure gas production will be in accordance with Europe’s needs, and Azerbaijan will become a very reliable energy partner. We signed the memorandum of understanding on energy partnership with the European Union. It is the framework, in which we will continue acting in energy sector,” the Head of State said.
