AZERBAIJAN TO SUPPLY GAS TO EUROPE

Azerbaijan needs the U.S. support for supplies of Azeri natural gas on the European market, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov, currently on a routine visit to the U.S., told U.S. Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham.

According to Mr. Mamedyarov, there is a good possibility to supply Azeri gas to Europe. Azerbaijan is negotiating for gas transit with Greece, he added.

The sides agreed that the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, which is under construction now, and the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline (Eastern Turkey) are highly important for the region.

Elmar Mamedyarov and Spencer Abraham also focused on the significance of the Azeri-U.S. Energy Dialogue project regulating bilateral cooperation in energy field.

Mr. Abraham expressed hope for Azeri-U.S. productive cooperation in this sphere in the conditions of growing interest in renewable energy sources.

Moreover, they discussed the establishment of relations between Azeri and U.S. energy research centers and the possibility of joint research work.
