AZERBAIJANI AMERICAN COUNCIL OPENS HEADQUARTERS IN CALIFORNIA
Residents of several American cities, along with the Memorial Day of America have celebrated 28 May - the Republic Day of Azerbaijan. Taking into account appeal of the local Azerbaijani communities, heads of the cities of Washington, Houston, some districts of California have announced 28 May the “National Day of Azerbaijan”. Taking into account contributions of the American Azerbaijan communities to ethnic diversity, inter-cultural understanding, peace and progress, the authorities of the mentioned cities have called on the residents to mark national holiday of Azerbaijan - the first democratic republic in the Moslem world - along with the Azerbaijan communities.
The Azerbaijani American Council of California (AACC) marked 28 May with opening the Organization’s headquarters in the city of Irving. Members of the Turkish and Greek communities, Consul General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles Elin Suleymanov, representative of the American Turkish Associations from California Ahmed Atakhan and others spoke of importance of this Day. Mrs. Sokolski, representative from Irving city on behalf of the city authorities congratulated the participants of ceremony and expressed readiness for cooperation with the Azerbaijani American Council.
AAC Executive Director Javid Huseynov spoke of the history of 28 May, its importance for world Azerbaijanis.
A group of Armenians tried to protest the action, but thanks to law-enforcers they failed.
Establishment of headquarters of the community in California is an important point, Javid Huseynov said. It will promote to unite the Azerbaijanis living here.
