Azerbaijani delegation attending WSIS Forum
Baku, May 16 (AZERTAC). Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Elmir Velizade is participating in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) started in Geneva on May 16.
The Forum, organized by ITU, UNESCO, UNCTAD and UNDP, is the world`s largest annual forum of the ICT society and presents special UN agencies, governments and civil society organizations in ICT industry.
The main purpose of the forum is to discuss the role of ICT in socio-economic development of the World.
The event opens up opportunities to participate in many-sided discussions in the implementation of the World Summit on the Information Society, first phase of which took place in Geneva in 2003 (10-12 December), second phase in Tunis in 2005 (16-18 November) and became key event in the third millennium for the world society, marking the transition from industrial society to information society.
Elmir Velizade will speak at the high-level plenary session, dedicated to the partnership and cooperation to achieve the objectives of the WSIS by 2015, and which set the tone for all discussions and interactive sessions at the forum.
In addition to consideration of the implementation of WSIS tasks, the forum to be continued until May 20, also facilitates interactive discussion and exchange of information on a wide range of topics.
