Azerbaijani delegation meets Iranian President
Baku, August 5 (AZERTAC). An Azerbaijani delegation led by speaker of the parliament Ogtay Asadov has met Hassan Rouhani who swore in as the new Iranian President earlier today.
Hassan Rouhani asked the delegation to pass on his greetings and best wishes to President Ilham Aliyev.
The new President thanked the Azerbaijani delegation for attending his inauguration.
Mr Rouhani said Iran supported Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, adding Tehran would increase efforts to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in line with the principles of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereign borders.
He recalled his visits to Azerbaijan, describing national leader Heydar Aliyev as a genius political leader.
The Iranian leader said “this policy is today being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev”.
Speaker Ogtay Asadov congratulated Mr Rouhani on his claiming a landslide victory in Iran’s presidential election.
Mt Asadov also conveyed the greetings of President Ilham Aliyev to the new Iranian leader.
The Azerbaijani speaker said he believed Iran would make serious efforts to ensure settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict peacefully.
