AZERBAIJANI FM MAMMADYAROV MEETS IRANIAN COUNTERPART MOTTAKI
Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki on the sidelines of the Caspian Sea littoral states foreign ministers` meeting in Tehran.
The two ministers discussed bilateral relations, especially economic ones, as well as a wide range of regional and international issues.
Both ministers stressed the importance of establishing peace and stability in the region.
Elmar Mammadyarov and Manouchehr Mottaki also discussed prospects for cooperation in transport sector as well as the possibilities of delivering Central Asian gas to Azerbaijan through Iran and Iran`s joining the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.
Responding to Iranian Minister`s question about the Qabala Radar (Radiolocation) Station, Elmar Mammadyarov said it is Azerbaijan`s property and no country may use it without his country’s permission.
FM Mammadyarov said if Azerbaijan, Russia and the USA come to any agreement on the Qabala Radar Station, it could help establish stability in the region.
On Azerbaijan`s conflict with Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh, Elmar Mammadyarov said Armenia occupied twenty percent of his country`s territory, adding it poses a serious threat to the regional stability.
Manouchehr Mottaki said Iran supports Azerbaijan`s stance on the dispute, and wants it to be solved only in accordance with the principle of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
During the conversation, the ministers also discussed the situation in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine.
Mr. Mottaki also highly praised Elmar Mammadyarov`s activity as the chairman of the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers.
