Baku, August 11, AZERTAC
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has had a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia and OSCE Chairman-in-Office Bujar Osmani.
During the phone conversation, the sides discussed issues of cooperation within the OSCE, the bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and North Macedonia as well as the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process and the current situation in the region.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that the increasing provocations of Armenia against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan are designed to hinder advancing the peace process. He noted that the provocations committed by Armenia against the Lachin border checkpoint, which threaten the establishment of peace in the region, the reintegration of Armenian residents into Azerbaijani society, show that this country is not interested in the peace process.
FM Bayramov underlined that Armenia's claims such as "tense humanitarian situation in the region" and "blockade" are groundless, and the obstruction of the Agdam-Khankendi road proposed by the Azerbaijani side to meet the needs of the Armenian residents, was not a humanitarian issue as presented by Armenia, but a political one.
The Azerbaijani FM underscored the unacceptability of the almost 30-year-long military occupation of Armenia, using the Lachin road for military purposes as well as for transportation of Azerbaijan`s natural resources to Armenia in the post-conflict period, contrary to the norms of international law and its obligations, and noted the importance of the Lachin border checkpoint for preventing these provocative steps.
During the telephone conversation, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
