AZERBAIJANI FOREIGN MINISTRY DELEGATION VISITS UAE
As is reported Azerbaijani delegation headed by Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov Monday paid a state visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Mr. Mammadyarov met with the Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in the first day of his visit.
Sheik Mohammed said his country attaches great importance to the development of cooperation with Azerbaijan, adding that the embassy of UAE will soon be opened in this country.
The meeting focused on the development perspectives of the two countries’ relations in energy, tourism, economy, trade spheres, cooperation within regional projects and opening of direct flight between Baku and Abu Dhabi.
On the same day, E. Mammadyarov met with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al-Nahyan.
Mr. Mammadyarov said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s official visit to UAE in 2006 gave an impetus to the development of the two countries’ relations.
Mr. Mammadyarov expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation of Azerbaijan and UAE within international organizations, in particular, the United Nations (UN) and Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). He expressed his gratitude to UAE for supporting the draft resolution called “the situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan” in the UN General Assembly.
Mr. Abdullah said UAE would always support Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
“Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations between the Azerbaijani and UAE Foreign Ministries” and some protocols were signed in the meeting.
Elmar Mammadyarov also met with Minister of Economy Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi and discussed bilateral economic and trade relations, as well as the two countries’ cooperation within regional projects.
