Azerbaijani minister: Nabucco West is still relevant and can be realized

Baku, September 4 (AZERTAC). The Nabucco West project is still relevant and can be realized, the Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister Natig Aliyev told journalists.

According to him, the choice of one export route - the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) - does not mean that another project will not be implemented.

"Each of these projects had their own goal. I believe that over time, Nabucco West will not lose its relevance.”

"I believe that the possibilities of gas production in Azerbaijan are very high. After 2020, Azerbaijan will be able to produce 40 billion cubic meters of gas if, of course, TAP and TANAP projects will be commissioned on time," said Aliyev.

The Minister noted that the choice of the TAP project as an export route for Azerbaijani gas will give a big push to increasing gas production in the country. “This project will push other foreign companies operating in Azerbaijan to speed up gas production in the fields where they work.”

According to the minister, the export of gas to Italy will not exceed 11 billion cubic metres a year, and the prospects for further continuation and effectiveness of the TAP route to the north were unknown.
