AZERBAIJANI MINISTER OF INDUSTRY AND ENERGY MEETS GREEK DELEGATION
Natiq Aliyev, Minister of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan Monday met with the delegation headed by Minister of Development of Greece Christos Folias.
Mr. Aliyev said the visit of the Greek delegation to Azerbaijan would strengthen the two countries’ relations.
“Energy sector of Azerbaijan plays great role in its relations with European countries. Azerbaijan gained substantial achievements in energy sphere and the country possesses large amounts of energy reserves. So, 43, 7 million ton oil was produced last year and this figure reached 52 million ton in 2008. It is expected to reach 65 million tons in 2009”, said N. Aliyev.
Mr. Natig Aliyev also noted Caspian gas transportation to the European Union countries was the important issue for them, adding that Azerbaijan would have a great role in the Europe’s energy security.
Expressing his gratitude for warm hospitality Mr. Christos Folias said his country supports the energy corridor to be built to transport Azerbaijani gas to Greece.
“The Greek parliament ratified energy agreement between Azerbaijan and Greece. Thanks to this Agreement, the two countries’ relations would strengthen and develop. Greece plans to import Azerbaijani gas, too”, said the Minister of Development.
The meeting also discussed oil-gas cooperation perspectives between the two countries, development of non-oil sector in Azerbaijan and other issues.
