Azerbaijan`s Deputy Minister of Economy attends SPECA Week events in Turkmenistan

Rovnag Abdullayev, Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Economy, attended the 20th meeting of the Governing Council of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA), held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
The meeting, chaired by Babaniyaz Yalakov, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, brought together the heads of delegations of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), as well as SPECA participating countries.
In his remarks, the Azerbaijani Deputy Minister emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to developing bilateral and multilateral ties with Central Asian countries. He highlighted partnership in transport and transit, trade, energy, investment, and digitalization as priority directions for regional development.
Rovnag Abdullayev also provided insights into the steps taken by Azerbaijan toward developing the Middle Corridor and strengthening transport and communication links. He underscored the importance of joint investment funds established with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan to support joint projects.
The meeting approved the final document of the SPECA Economic Forum and discussed the implementation status of the SPECA Work Plan for 2024–2025. Reports on the activities of the working groups were heard, reviewing outcomes achieved and priorities for the coming period. The event also approved the SPECA Work Plan for 2026–2027, with the Kyrgyz Republic elected as Chair of the SPECA Programme for 2026.
As part of SPECA Week, Deputy Minister Rovnag Abdullayev also participated in the second meeting of the SPECA Fund Steering Committee. In his address, he described the establishment of the SPECA Multi-Partner Trust Fund as an important institutional step toward developing multi-vector regional cooperation.
The meeting focused on efforts to establish the fund and discussed future steps. The event concluded with the adoption of the SPECA MPTF Financing Strategy and the first Call for Proposals.
