AZERBAIJAN’S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MINISTER MEETS WITH GERMAN DELEGATION
Azerbaijan-Germany cooperation is developing rapidly, member of the Bundestag committees on foreign affairs and defense, deputy chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, Andreas Schockenhoff said Monday in a meeting with Economic Development Minister of Azerbaijan Heydar Babayev.
The meeting was also attended by chairperson of the PACE Monitoring Committee Eduard Lintner, chairman of the Germany-Azerbaijan Forum Otto Hauser and others. Heydar Babayev expressed his satisfaction with the present level of Azerbaijan-Germany relationship. According to him, despite the rise in the trade turnover over the year, it still falls short of the potential. The Minister highlighted the role of President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Germany in February this year in developing cooperation between the two countries. Babayev said the trade turnover in the non-energy sector might be increased up to $1 billion within short time.
Andreas Schockenhoff highlighted increasing prestige of Azerbaijan in the region and the world. He stressed the importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Akhalkalaki-Kars railway. German parliamentarian pointed out that Azerbaijan is a reliable partner due to its energy resources and geographical position.
The parties discussed other issues of mutual interest.
Azerbaijan’s ambassador in Germany Parviz Shahbazov was present at the meeting.
