Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister discusses Israel-Iran tensions with Algerian counterpart

On June 22, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, on the sidelines of the 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The meeting focused on key issues related to bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Algeria, as well as the evolving situation stemming from the Israel–Iran confrontation.
The ministers commended the current level of Azerbaijan–Algeria cooperation, which is grounded in mutual respect and shared values. They agreed that high-level reciprocal visits have significantly contributed to strengthening interstate relations.
The two sides also discussed the political consultations held between their respective foreign ministries in April, highlighting their importance in promoting the comprehensive and systematic development of bilateral cooperation.
Minister Bayramov and Minister Attaf praised the collaboration between Azerbaijan and Algeria within international organizations, including the UN, OIC, and the Non-Aligned Movement.
They also reviewed prospects for expanding economic cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, oil and gas, and renewable energy. The ministers stressed the value of enhancing educational and cultural exchanges to foster closer ties between the peoples of both countries. In this context, they noted that the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation, currently in the process of being established, would serve as a key mechanism.
Expressing serious concern over regional security risks posed by the Israel–Iran confrontation, both ministers underscored the urgent need for resolving the conflict through dialogue and diplomatic efforts.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on other bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
