Azerbaijan`s Minister of Economic Development Heydar Babayev met with Latvian Minister of Economy Jurijs Strods.

Heydar Babayev spoke of economic reforms conducted in Azerbaijan, adding they have led to his country`s rapid development.

The Minister said the development of the non-oil sector, especially information technologies, is one of the Azerbaijani government`s priorities.

Mr. Babayev stressed the possibility of benefiting from Latvia`s experience in applying information technologies.

Commenting on the ongoing process of Azerbaijan`s joining the World Trade Organization, Heydar Babayev said that the government is preparing the relevant legislation that will meet the accepted world standards, and that negotiations with the WTO member countries are continuing as well.

Jurijs Strods expressed satisfaction with his participating in the second Summit of GUAM, saying Latvia is ready to cooperate with Azerbaijan within the organization.
