AZERBAIJAN’S MINISTER OF INDUSTRY AND ENERGY MEETS WITH NATO PA VICE-PRESIDENT
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Industry and Energy Natiq Aliyev met Thursday with Vice-President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and head of Romanian parliamentary delegation to the organization Mihail Lupoi.
Natiq Aliyev and Mihail Lupoi explored prospects for Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation and discussed bilateral ties between Azerbaijan and Romania, the results of a recent energy summit in Krakow, security of oil and gas pipelines and other issues.
Mr. Aliyev informed the NATO PA Vice-President about global projects being implemented in his country.
On Azerbaijan-European Union relations, the Minister said Azerbaijan was the first country to sign an energy cooperation agreement with the organization.
Natiq Aliyev added a similar agreement was signed with the United States of America in March this year.
Mihail Lupoi stressed Azerbaijan’s huge role in energy security in Europe.
Natiq Aliyev and Mihail Lupoi also discussed the Nabucco gas pipeline project.
Minister Aliyev reiterated that his country is keen to participate in the project, and noted Europe should step up its efforts towards Kazakhstan’s and Turkmenistan’s joining the Nabucco pipeline project.
The Azerbaijani Minister said his country wants to build a new oil refinery at the Turkish port of Ceyhan.
Mihail Lupoi invited Natiq Aliyev to visit Romania.
