Azerbaijan`s top diplomat meets Special Envoy of Japanese Foreign Ministry
Baku, January 31 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Minister of Foreign affairs Elmar Mammadyarov has met Special Representative for Caucasus, Central Asia and GUAM of Japanese Foreign Ministry, Takeshi Hikihara.
Mr. Mammadyarov expressed satisfaction on the current level of relations between Azerbaijan and Japan and hailed the bilateral political and economic ties and cooperation within international organizations.
The Minister noted fruitful cooperation existed between the two countries in economical and energy spheres, adding there was great potential for further expansion of bilateral relations in various fields.
On Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Mammadyarov said that Armenia`s unconstructive position and aggressive policy obstructs peace and stability in the region, and that the presence of Armenian armed forces in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan is the main obstacle to settlement of the conflict.
Takeshi Hikihara, in turn, noted that Japan attaches great importance to enhancing cooperation with Azerbaijan and emphasized the existence of opportunities for expansion of cooperation between the two countries.
As it concerns the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, he said that Japan supported the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and settlement of the conflict based on UN Security Council resolutions.
Following the meeting, Mammadyarov invited Japanese Foreign Minister to visit Azerbaijan.
