AZERI FM DELIVERS SPEECH AT HARRIMAN INSTITUTE IN US
Baku, September 23 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s foreign minister Elmar Mammadyarov has given a speech at Tuesday the Harriman Institute, the Columbia University, as part of his working visit to the United States of America.
Speaking on “The Foreign Policy of Azerbaijan: Affecting Factors and Priorities”, Mammadyarov highlighted Azerbaijan`s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, its reasons and impact on regional and international situation.
Mammadyarov said Azerbiajan`s geopolitical situation and rich natural resources are a major boost to the country`s foreign policy.
“The government of Azerbaijan is using these factors to ensure economic development, improvement of population`s living standard and expansion of the country`s regional and international cooperation.”
Mammadyarov also spoke of Azerbaijan`s contribution to ensuring international security and stability.
“Azerbaijan is one of the active participants in peacemaking operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the country also initiated a number of civil-infrastructure and humanitarian projects,” said the FM.
Mammadyarov also told of Azerbaijan`s cooperation with NATO and European Union.
Following his speech the Azeri minister responded to questions from the audience.
Later the same day he met Slovenian counterpart Samuel Zbogar to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries.
The foreign minister also had a meeting with Peter Semneby, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, on Azerbaijan-EU cooperation, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and situation in the South Caucasus.
