AZERI OLYMPIANS RETURN FROM SINGAPORE GAMES

Baku, August 28 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani athletes have returned home from Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games where they claimed a clutch of 8 medals, including 5 golds.

At the Heydar Aliyev International Airport the athletes were welcomed by representatives of National Olympic Committee, Ministry of Youth and Sport, Baku city Youth and Sport Department, as well as journalists, fans and family members.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Ismayil Ismayilov praised the Olympians` performance in the Singapore Games, saying “winning 8 medals is a triumph.”

He hailed President Ilham Aliyev`s attention to sport in the country.

Azerbaijan, which was represented by 12 athletes in the Games, ranked 11th in the overall medal table.

Four of Azerbaijan`s goals came in the wrestling event, while the fifth was won by a weight lifter. Silvers came in the wrestling and boxing events.
