Baku 2015 European Games appoints new Director of Communications
Baku, May 19 (AZERTAC). The Baku 2015 European Games Operation Committee (BEGOC) has announced the appointment of William Louis-Marie to the position of Director of Communications.
Louis-Marie joins the BEGOC team to lead the Communications department in developing media awareness and coverage of the European Games around the world.
Louis-Marie, from France, has senior executive experience across a range of businesses including involvement in previous Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup.
He joins BEGOC from Trace TV, an innovative multi-media group operating in 160 countries, where he held the position of Senior Vice President of Trace Sports, the new international channel dedicated to champions.
Welcoming Louis-Marie to BEGOC, Simon Clegg, Chief Operating Officer of Baku 2015, said: “William has a fantastic breadth and depth of communications experience within the commercial sector to draw on as he leads our communication strategy and delivery.”
“His international reputation and passion for sport will greatly enhance the existing BEGOC team and will contribute to the successful delivery of an inaugural European Games in Baku next June.”
Louis-Marie served as Trace TV’s London 2012 Olympic Games Project Manager, and also worked on the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games and the France 1998 World Cup as Communications Manager for Coca-Cola France.
Other notable major sports bodies he has worked with include the French Olympic Committee, Tour de France, numerous French and International Sports Federation and many sports brands.
Louis-Marie said: “I am more than delighted to be taking this wonderful opportunity to join the Baku 2015 team as the One Year To Go date approaches on June 12.
“It is an honour to be joining such a talented team and I am looking forward to helping build awareness of this innovative event globally.
“We want to showcase Azerbaijan as a destination for elite sport, as well as a modern and dynamic European country. The European Games will be a celebration of sport enjoyed by the entire continent and the Azeri population.”
Louis-Marie is due to arrive in Baku Monday, 19 May, and take up his position tomorrow.
Baku 2015 will be the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative new multi-sport event for the continent that will take place from June 12 until June 28 2015.
There will be a total of 19 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and three non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes are expected to represent their nations over the 17 days of competition.
Nine of the sports will offer qualification opportunities for the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics in 2016. Those sports include archery, athletics, beach volleyball, cycling, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and triathlon.
Baku was awarded the Games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012. The Baku European Games Operations Committee (BEGOC) will organise and run the Games in co-operation with the EOC.
