BAKU HOSTING AIBA PRESIDENT CUP

Baku, 8 December (AZERTAC). An international boxing tournament AIBA President Cup has today kicked off in Azerbaijan`s capital, bringing together 8 teams from 5 continents.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, first vice-president of Azerbaijan Boxing Federation Agajan Abiyev said “by hosting such tournaments Azerbaijan showcases its sportive potential to the whole world”.

“This kind of tournaments once again demonstrates how much importance Azerbaijan attaches to developing the Olympic movement in the country.”

President of International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) Ching-Kuo Wu thanked the Azerbaijani government for “high level organization” of the event.

He said the tournament was one of the “most important competitions in the AIBA annual calendar”.

Total prize fund of the tournament amounts to $ 50,000.

Baku will also host AIBA`s forum on Thursday which will focus on a wide range of issues, including how to develop women boxing.
