Baku hosts International Oil, Gas and Media Conference
Baku, September 19 (AZERTAC). The International Oil, Gas and Media Conference co-organized by International Press Institute and State Oil Company of Azerbaijan started in Baku on Tuesday.
The three-day conference will bring together about 200 specialists from petrochemical industries, scientists and mass media outlets from 27 countries. Chief of socio-political department of Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Ali Hasanov welcomed journalists and read out a congratulatory letter of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to the participants. On behalf of the government of Azerbaijan, Hasanov expressed his gratitude to Mrs. Alison for gathering the world`s popular journalists engaged in oil and gas fields in Baku. “Azerbaijan is one of the leading countries in the South Caucasus and the Caspian basin, which produces oil and gas. And conducting such event in Baku is of great importance for us,” Hasanon added.
“This conference represents a unique opportunity for leaders in Azerbaijan and other oil-rich states to meet with journalists who cover these issues, and create the tools necessary for an ongoing, positive dialogue,” noted IPI Executive Director Alison Bethel McKenzie. She expressed her confidence the conference would be effective and yield important results. The speeches were also made by Chairman of Azerbaijan National Committee of International Press Institute Umud Rahimoglu, Azerbaijani Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev.
During the four panels, the conference participants discussed a role of press in covering oil and gas events, freedom of press in energy sector, search of new onshore and offshore reserves, priorities of the journalists in writing articles, exploration, production and security of oil fields.
A dinner was arranged in honor of conference participants in Gulustan palace.
