BAKU HOSTS SEMINAR ON ENERGY SECURITY
Baku, 10 June (AZERTAC). The Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council is holding a two-day seminar titled “Energy security: challenges and prospects” in Baku. The seminar is being held as part of the NATO Baku week.
According to Michael Gaul, Director, NATO HQ Defense and Security Economics Directorate, the world’s demand for energy is predicted to grow 15 times by 2030. The worldwide increase in energy demand is a matter of principal concern in many countries. Addressing the seminar, Mr. Gaul outlined a need to diversify energy routes and promote security of energy infrastructure.
Azerbaijan Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov said official Baku approves a debate about the energy security within the bounds of North Atlantic Treaty Organization. As the energy security means military security, it is playing a key role in political processes, according to Azimov. There is also a need for elaboration of common strategy for cooperation in the field of energy security, Mr. Azimov said. State Secretary for strategic affairs of the Romanian Foreign Ministry Bogdan Aurescu said NATO will increase its activities to protect energy security within the Black Sea and Caspian basin.
The seminar is organized by NATO in conjunction with the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry and is attended by both local and foreign experts and diplomats.
