BRITISH AMBASSADOR ON AZERBAIJAN-BRITISH RELATIONS
Baku, 18 September (AZERTAC). British Ambassador to Azerbaijan Carolyn Browne today held a round-table at the Center of Strategic Researches under the President of the Azerbaijan Republic on the topic “Relations between Great Britain and Azerbaijan in the context of modern regional geopolitics”.
In his report Mr. Ambassador has concerned questions of mutual relations, including economic, cultural and political connections between two countries.
The Ambassador noted that both countries face such common challenges as climate change, environmental contamination, and economic crisis. Karolyn Browne highly appreciated adherence of Azerbaijan to integration into the Euro-Atlantic structures, and also the contribution of the country to peace-making operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The diplomat underlined that his country stands ready to support Azerbaijan to become a member of the international organizations, noting the progress in negotiations on the admission of Azerbaijan to the World Trade Organization.
At the meeting, it was noted that Great Britain is the largest foreign investor in Azerbaijan, considering that over 100 British companies function in the country.
The Ambassador also dwelled on the problem of Nagorno Karabakh, relations of Azerbaijan with the European Union, situation in the Near East, etc.
The “round table” attended by representatives of the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, experts on the international relations, is a part of the special project of the Center of Strategic Researches. In discussion of the mentioned project ambassadors of Russia, Israel, Turkey and China have been already involved.
