Brussels launches Goldwind trade probe

The European Commission has opened an investigation into the supply of turbines and related services by Goldwind to member states, according to ReNewsBiz.
The Commission said it had launched the “in-depth” probe in response to concerns the Chinese manufacturer “may have been granted foreign subsidies that could distort the EU internal market”.
The move follows the start of a wider investigation into Chinese OEMs under the EC’s Foreign Subsidies Regulation in April 2024.
Officials said information gathered since then suggests Goldwind may have received possible foreign subsidies including grants, preferential tax measures and preferential financing in the form of loans.
“The Commission has preliminary concerns that these foreign subsidies may improve Goldwind’s competitive position in the internal market and may negatively affect competition for the supply of turbines,” said the EC.
It added that at the end of the investigation the EC could decide to take action that includes accepting commitments from the company “if they fully and effectively remedy the distortion”, imposing redressive measures or issuing a no objection decision.
