CARDINAL TARCISIO BERTONE VISITS HOLY MYRRHBEARERS CATHEDRAL IN BAKU
Vatican`s Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone visited the Holy Myrrhbearers Cathedral, a Russian Orthodox church in Azerbaijan`s capital, Baku, on Saturday.
Head of Baku and All-Caspian Orthodox Eparchy, father Alexander informed Cardinal Bertone of history of the church which was fully restored at the initiative of Azerbaijan`s nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev and with the financial aid provided by the Azerbaijani-born Russian entrepreneur Aydin Gurbanov.
Father Alexander said Azerbaijan is the country where representatives of all religious confessions have always been living in peace and harmony. He presented Cardinal Bertone with an icon of Apostle Bartholomew.
Vatican`s Secretary of State said religious tolerance reigning in Azerbaijan must be a model for many countries across the world.
On behalf of Pope Benedict XVI, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone donated a golden cross to the Cathedral.

Later the same day, Vatican`s Secretary of State visited a synagogue of Mountain Jews of Azerbaijan.
Afterwards, he took a walk through the National Park.
