CAREC meeting kicks off in Baku
Baku, June 6 (AZERTAC). 14th meeting of Trade Policy Coordinating Committee of Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) has today kicked off in Baku.
In the preparatory meeting representative of Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Economic Development gave information about CAREC project.
Ana Lucía Coronel, International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission chief for Middle East and Central Asia Department noted World Trade Organization (WTO) membership of CAREC program`s member states also will be discussed in the meeting.
The official opening of the meeting is scheduled to be held on June 7.
The event will bring together representatives of CAREC member states, World Bank, IMF, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Asian Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank and UN Development Program.
CAREC - a program supported by ADB, was established in 1997 to encourage economic cooperation among countries in the Central Asian region. The program has focused to date on financing infrastructure projects and improving the region`s policy environment in the priority areas of transport (especially road transport), energy (including the water-energy nexus), trade policy, and trade facilitation (especially customs cooperation).
