CRITICAL SITUATION IN GEORGIA NOT TO INFLUENCE UPON BTC PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION

The critical situation in Georgia will not influence upon BTC pipeline construction, said US assistant secretary for European and Eurasian affairs Elizabeth Jones in Almaty on July 16, during her visit to Kazakhstan.

According to the United States officials, with this entire going on projects of BTC pipeline construction the possibility of the critical situation in the Caucasus have been taken into account.

The length of BTC pipeline is 1,762 km, of which - 443 km are in Azerbaijan, in Georgia - 249 km, in Turkey - 1070 km. The pipeline capacity is 50 million tons of oil per annum.

The contractor for Georgian part is Spie Capag/Petrofag, which is also a contractor for works on the construction of pumping stations on the territory of both countries, the Greek Consolidated Contractors International Company is a contractor for the construction of the Azeri part of BTC pipeline, the Turkish company BOTAS is the contractor for the Turkish part of BTC pipeline.

The pipeline construction is planned to be completed in the beginning of 2005. The export of Azerbaijani oil from the Turkish Ceyhan port is planned in the 2nd quarter of 2005.
