Dates and venues of 2019 European Games in Minsk announced

The 2019 European Games will take place on 21-30 June, according to the official webpage of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus. The dates were confirmed during the 38th European Olympic Committees Seminar in Skopje, Macedonia, on 20 May.
The Opening and Closing Ceremonies will take place at the Dinamo Stadium in Minsk, while some competitions might begin on June 20, a day before the official opening of the European Games.
The Dinamo Stadium, currently under renovations, has previously been used by the Belarus national football team and held matches at the Moscow 1980 Summer Olympics. The venue will host athletics competition.
Minsk Arena will host the gymnastics competition, with acrobatic, artistic, rhythmic and trampolining competitions set to take place at the 15,000-seat venue.
Track cycling and badminton competitions will be held at the velodrome during Minsk 2019, with the facility’s ice rink expected to be turned into a warm-up area. Road races and time trials will also take place at the Games, with both cycling events due to be held in the city.
Palova Arena, a 2,000-seat facility at the heart of the city, will stage 3×3 basketball competition.
Boxing will be held in the Uruchie Sports Palace, while freestyle, Greco-Roman and women’s wrestling will be held at Chizhovka Arena. The multi-purpose venue will also host sambo competition.
Canoe sprint events will take place at the Zaslavl regatta course, which staged the Junior World Championships last year.
Karate and judo will be housed in the Sports Palace, while the National Olympic Committee of Belarus’ existing Olympic Sport Complex will host beach soccer and beach volleyball.
Sporting Club will host the shooting competition, while the Falcon Club and FC Minsk sport complex will stage table tennis and archery competitions respectively.
A total of 4,000 athletes and about 2,000 officials are expected to attend the second edition of the Games.
Belarus was announced the host country of the 2019 European Games during the 45th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees on 20-22 October.
The first European Games were held in Azerbaijan on 12-28 June 2015. They were attended by 5730 athletes from 50 countries.
