Bahar Muradova, deputy chairman of the Milli Majlis met with Ambeyi Ligabo, UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression

According to B. Muradov, after regaining its independence, Azerbaijan closely cooperated with international organizations including the UN. Azerbaijan effectively used UN recommendations and conventions to establish democracy in the country, protect human rights and ensure freedoms of speech and press.

Then, deputy MM speaker told of the laws on freedom of expression and press passed by the parliament and international conventions that Azerbaijan acceded to.

B. Muradova expressed hope that the report highlight this visit’s contribution to development of relationships with the UN, and give an objective assessment of the ongoing processes in Azerbaijan.

Ambeyi Ligabo said he once studied in the Baku State University. According to him, today’s development of Azerbaijan is praiseworthy. The scope of construction here is an evidence of well-being of the population

The meeting also focused on other issues of mutual interest.
