Earthquake measuring 5.8 on Richter scale jolts parts of Northern Pakistan

An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted several parts of Northern Pakistan early Friday, with tremors felt in the capital Islamabad, the nearby city of Rawalpindi, and many other cities across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, as well as various areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre of the Pakistan Meteorological Department in Islamabad, the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.8. The tremors caused panic among residents in the affected areas; however, initial reports indicated no loss of life or damage to property.
Earlier, tremors from a 6.1-magnitude earthquake were also felt in parts of Tajikistan and China’s Xinjiang region. The epicenter of that earthquake was located near the Tajikistan–China border at a depth of 159 kilometers.
