ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MINISTER OF AZERBAIJAN MEETS WITH ISRAEL`S MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE
Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan Heydar Babayev met with visiting Israel’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Shalom Simhon and his accompanying delegation to discuss economic ties between Azerbaijan and Israel.
Heydar Babayev said food security is very important for Azerbaijan. According to him, AZN 80-mln agricultural subsidies were paid to farmers to purchase, motor oil, fuel and fertilizers. Moreover, Agroleasing joint-stock company was set up to offer agroservices to agricultural producers. The company supplies farms with equipment, spare parts, agro-chemical substances and chemicals against plant pests. Azerbaijan intends to pay 10% subsidies after the country joins the WTO. This issue is under discussion in the talks on Azerbaijan`s WTO membership.
Minister stressed the need to use more effectively the existing potential of trade ties between the countries, saying there are good opportunities for cooperation in a variety of fields including agriculture.
Shalom Simhon hailed rapid economic expansion in Azerbaijan and ongoing construction boom. He said cattle breeding and plant cultivation are main fields in the country.
Israeli Minister invited Heydar Babayev to participate in the exhibition to be held in 2009 in Israel.
Director General of Israel`s Agrexso company Shlomo Tirash and Israeli ambassador Arthur Lenk were present at the meeting.
