ESCAP Ministerial Conference on Transport held in Moscow

Moscow hosted the third Ministerial conference of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). The event was also attended by Azerbaijani delegation led by the minister of transport Ziya Mammadov.
The Conference brought together representatives of more than 40 countries and 28 international organizations.
The Conference convened from 5 to 9 December 2016 in Moscow had important tasks to discuss the future policy direction for regional transport development, to assess the implementation of the Regional Action Program for Transport Development in Asia and the Pacific for 2012-2016s, and consider and adopt a new regional action program for sustainable transport connectivity in Asia and the Pacific.
Azerbaijan’s transport minister Ziya Mammadov highlighted the country’s transit policy to develop the relevant infrastructure, diversification of transport roads, state support for transport projects, harmonized and simplified border procedures and other issues.
The Conference is part of a series of quinquennial ministerial conferences organized by the ESCAP Secretariat.
The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) works to overcome some of the region's greatest challenges by providing results oriented projects, technical assistance and capacity building to member States.
