Estonia seeks concrete efforts to strengthen ties with Eastern partners
Tallinn, September 28 (AZERTAC). Foreign Minister of Estonia Urmas Paet stressed as unacceptable political and economic pressure put on Armenia, Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia in order to influence their free choice as he spoke at a meeting of foreign ministers of the European Union and NATO on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
“Of course, states have the right to decide their future and everyone has to respect this right,” Paeta was quoted as saying by BNS.
He added the EU must support all the Eastern partnership countries because they trust the European Union. Paet found the need to gain concrete results in the Eastern partnership summit to take place in November in Vilnius. The Eastern Partnership must have reached another level, he said.
The Estonian FM described cooperation between these countries and the US as important.
“Additionally, the conclusion of Association and Free Trade Agreements with Moldova and Georgia and moving forward towards visa-free travel are also important,” noted Paet.
He emphasized the importance of signing of an Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine.
According to him, Estonia considers as important the diversity of energy sources of Eastern Partnership countries.
