FAPA recognizes BTA for coverage of Down Syndrome World Championships

Slav Petkov, President of the Federation of Adapted Physical Activity (FAPA), presented a commemorative plaque to Kiril Valchev, Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency, in recognition of the agency's coverage of the Down Syndrome World Championship, held in Sofia in June.
BTA served as the event's media partner. Bulgaria competed with a team of 20 athletes, who won a total of 27 medals across five sports: artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, athletics, tennis, and table tennis.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude, not only on my own behalf, but on behalf of the entire community of people with disabilities, for everything you have done. You not only covered the event, you promoted it. You promoted the lives of these people and the hard work they have put in," Petkov said before presenting the plaque to Valchev.
"I deeply appreciate everything you have done. This plaque is dedicated entirely to the World Championship. It is one of a kind, created specifically for sports federations. Please accept this gift as a token of our gratitude for standing behind these athletes and helping them feel like truly valued members of society," Petkov added.
Also attending the meeting were Evgenia Drumeva, Deputy Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency, Neli Meshkova, the agency's PR representative, and Iva Krasteva, Deputy Director of BTA's Sports Department.
In 2027, Bulgaria will host two major championships for athletes with Down syndrome: the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Sofia and the European Swimming Championships.
