FM OF AZERBAIJAN VISITED TURKMENISTAN
As was reported earlier, Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov paid an official visit to Turkmenistan, May 23, press service of the Foreign Ministry told.
Mr. Mammadyarov met with Turkmenistan`s President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov in Ashgabat. Various questions between the two countries were debated at the meeting. Special attention was paid to economic and commercial relations, including transport and energy issues. Minister Mammadyarov presented Azerbaijani President`s letter to Turkmenistan`s President and conveyed his best regards.
Mr. Mammadyarov gave several proposals on the expansion of bilateral relations. He also proposed the establishment of intergovernmental commission.
G. Berdimuhammedov supporting this proposal stressed the expansion of economic cooperation will give an impetus to other fields.
Elmar Mammadyarov meeting with Turkmenistan`s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov discussed bilateral, regional and cooperation on the Caspian. Commenting on the Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict, the Minister informed his counterpart on the present condition of the negotiations.
Parties discussed the regional questions, noting that the conflict has no alternative solution in the framework of international law norms and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
The Foreign Ministers agreed on continuing interministerial talks.
Azerbaijani FM invited Mr. Meredov to Azerbaijan. The Turkmen Minister accepting the invitation said that the date of his visit would be specified through diplomatic channels.
In the framework of visit, FM of Azerbaijan gave an interview to local media and met officers of Azerbaijani Embassy in Ashgabat.
