FOREIGN MINISTER MEETS WITH US CONGRESSMEN
Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov has met with a visiting group of U.S. congressmen led by John Tierney, Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
Azerbaijan-USA bilateral relationships, the two countries’ cooperation within international and regional organizations, the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and energy issues were discussed during the conversation.
Congressman Tierney expressed satisfaction with the meeting his delegation had in Azerbaijan especially noting the importance of the detailed information they had been provided with about the country and its conflict with Armenia.
Minister Mammadyarov said as a result of the Armenian aggression, 20% of the Azerbaijan territories were occupied and a million of people became refugees and internally displaced persons. He noted that resolution of the conflict is possible only on the base of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
In the light of the recent reciprocal visits of a group of Azerbaijani and Armenian intellectuals, he stressed the necessity of understanding of the importance of establishing longstanding peace in the region by both the leadership of Armenia and the Armenian lobby.
