From Quentin Bryce, the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia
Your Excellency,
On the occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan, I wish to convey to you and to the Government and people of Azerbaijan my warmest wishes, together with those of the Australian Government and people.
Australia and Azerbaijan enjoy any shared approaches to international peace and security. I welcomed the twentieth anniversary of our diplomatic relations and look forward this year to the establishment of an Azerbaijani Embassy in Australia, which will contribute to further development of bilateral ties.
I wish the Republic of Azerbaijan a peaceful and successful presidential election in October, 2013. This will follow soon after Australia`s federal elections in September, 2013 - both being important expressions of our shared commitment to democracy.
The Australian Government is honoured by the international community`s confidence in electing Australia onto the United Nations Security Council for 2013-2014. We firmly believe contemporary challenges require global solutions and multilateral institutions, such as the UN, provide the best means for collective solutions. Australia is committed to engaging with the Republic of Azerbaijan on issues before the Security Council and looks forward to working together with you on issues of mutual interest in the years ahead. I comment the successful presidency of Azerbaijan in the Security Council in 2012 and Azerbaijan`s continuing contributions to the ISAF mission to Afghanistan.
May I express my confidence that the friendly relations existing between our two countries will continue to prosper in the coming year.
Yours sincerely,
Quentin Bryce
Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia
